A friend and I took Greyhound from Louisville, KY to Ft Lauderdale to retrieve a car when we were 17. It was a very memorable 27hr trip. High(low) lights:
- AC unit quit at one point and the bus reeked of sewage
- Jacksonville, FL bus depot is where I witnessed a bum trying to snag food from a baby sleeping on mother's shoulder, and this was after exiting the men's room where a local artist offered to paint my portrait while I was at the urinal.
- an old man hammered a fifth of Wild Turkey, then passed out pissing himself in the bus toilet. Old man accused me of stealing his wallet- it was in his piss saturated pocket. Old man started on a 2nd fifth, then was kicked out in nowheresville Tennessee in the middle of the night.
- stopping at a neon lit unusual business somewhere near the TN/AL/GA border after ditching drunk old man. A single store sold gas, fireworks, guns, and liquor. I was frightened and amused by the opportunities that await inside.
- a mom and kids packed a never ending supply of Corn Nuts. I can still recall the smell, and when I smell them I'm mentally transported to that bus ride.
