Camshaft or distributor sensor

1999 tj 4.0 sport. I have been told to check my camshaft position sensor. Then was told a 99 does not have a camshaft position sensor but has a distributor sensor instead? I didnt want to become a mechanic when I got into this but I rarely get what I want

It's a sensor in the distributor under the rotor. It's not even called a distributor sensor, it's called a distributor pickup. If you search for distributor sensor you will get all kinds of info on the crankshaft position sensor.

This is the one you want. Stay away from the Crown unit, unless you hate yourself and your passengers.
