I have a 2002 TJ with a 4.0. While changing spark plugs, I notice a hose at the rear of the valve cover that has a white ‘“White” insert clip. I can’t figure out where it goes or what it’s for. Can any one help.

That’s the breather for your transfer case. It’s missing the dust cap. You need to replace it.

Looks like a breather hose of some sort. Probably ends up at either the transmission or transfer case.

Yes that's for your transfer case, it normally runs straight up the firewall on the driver's side.
You're probably using yours as an example whilst forgetting that G-man worked on it. You're lucky it wasn't ziptied to the steering wheel.
They always come up on the right side with the trans dipstick or in that area if a manual.

Well this thread answered my I.D. question . . . this was laying loose on top of the tranny when I went to repair the shift linkage bushing. Anyone have a pic of where this should be bolted on an o4 LJ?
Thx, I'll run it to ground. the hose also has a hole rubbed thru by the transfer drive shaft . . .
Oddly enough I appear to already have the same vent in your photo attached to my dipstick; but the loose one is definitely attached to the transfer case. I'll dig back in there and figure it out when my new steering cable bushing arrives. Should I be concerned about moisture in the transfer case since the tube attached has a hole in it?
