Hello, I just replaced the front pinion seal on my 2000 TJ. I can’t reconnect the drive shaft. Any tips to get the u joints /straps a little closer together? Is it possible I over torqued it?

This should be very easy to do. Can you post pictures perhaps so we can see what the dilemma is with a visual?

The u joint Is too far away from the yoke, I can’t attach the straps...

The driveshaft has a slip yoke on it. You should just be able to pull the driveshaft out further to get the u-joint into position to tighten the straps.

Is the driveshaft extended to its limit or binding?

Same thing happened to me when I swapped an axle and rebuilt the driveshaft with a new boot. Just needed some coaxing

Ok next issue.... I got it all buttoned up and took it for a test drive and there’s a bad hum above 45 mph. Looking underneath again it seems like the whole yoke is loose. I thought I had it torques down correctly, is there any chance I over torqued it and damaged the crush sleeve?

Yes. You could also have the shaft out of phase if you didn't mark it position before you removed it.
