Took off steering wheel to put on a new leather wrap. Trying to torque down to 40ft lbs and even with someone holding the steering wheel I cannot get the damn torque wrench to click. I tested the torque wrench on the tire lug nuts and it works fine. Any idea what I am doing wrong?

Any idea what I am doing wrong?(lose nut behind the wheel)sorry I had to say it,Seriously though it is on a spline it might not go to spec ,don’t break it off,it’s not going anywhere.

Try using the seatbelt to hold the wheel in place.

Edit. And make sure you are using common sense. 40 lbs isn’t alot, if you feel like you are higher than that, get a new torque wrench.

It’s on a spline,no need to torque
