Catalytic converter problems

I have a 2001 wrangler and the check engine light came on. The code says the Catalyst converter is the cause. My question is would this cause intermeted sluggish acceleration? Could a head gasket cause the catalyst problems? Sometimes after the jeep warms up it has a sluggish acceleration. Could this be the catalyst converter or the engine? How would I know?

I would start with replacing the O2 sensors with an NGK, Denso, or Walker brand.

Then move on to the cats if that does't fix the problem. Flowmaster has a direct fit.

Walker makes good products. I just put a Walker exhaust system on my Step-Son's 2003 Buick Regal. Resonator had a crack all the way down it. Got a really good deal on the Walker exhaust from Rock Auto. Cost him $192.00 and my cousin's husband who is the head mechanic for a local garage put it on and did the state inspection for $168.00. Total $360 for a new exhaust installed. I think he got a good deal.

Ok I told everyone I would check in. Well this was a new jeep for me. So in the midst of trying to find out the history of the jeep I pulled a carfax(manly to get a maintenance record) in doing that I found out the jeep I just got financed had the mileage rolled back. I have since returned it and got a refund. They sold it at 150,000 in fact it had 240,000. I have since bought another wrangler this time I checked everything out first. This one has a 2.5 in it. I love it!!! I have some issues I will be posting about them in separate thread. Thanks for all of your help.

Oh man, that sucks...but, it is awesome you were permitted to return it.

Yea it really worked out because the 2.5 is perfect for me. But yes very wrong that they would do that. I guess it shows that the 4.0 can make it to 240,000

That does indeed suck, but as was said above, as least you were permitted to return it.

Thanks for the update!
