That's interesting to hear. I've had it throw codes for bad sensors in the past, so I assume it wouldn't be happy if the cat was removed entirely. What did you do with the sensors?
They are still in place. It does burn more fuel, but it is not my daily driver so it's not a big deal.
Take them out, plug the hole, and get HPtuners software and disable them in the ECM.
Hope the codes stay away. After about 100k miles on my xj, I needed exhaust repair work. Noticed the shop banging the hell out of the cat over a catch container before welding it back on. Tech said the cat had carbon built up. (yeah) A few thousand miles later, I got a smog test (sniffer back then). The tech said he noticed the cat was completely hollow despite the Jeep passing good as new and continued to do so till stolen at 285k miles. I always made sure plugs and O2 sensor were in good shape when testing. I've always suspected that emissions was mostly a scam as is so much of government business is about redistributing wealth toward special interests, e.g., pay to play (mining perhaps?) Ethanol is another example. Upon us now are the interests of the Green New Deal. Auto manufacturers happily play along as emissions has morphed into a major profit motive, (computers, anyone?) Just my opinions based on experience rather than what I'm told.
