Check Gauges Oil Pressure Sensor

Pretty much same issue, I have thrown a couple MOPAR sensors and I know I tried a I think OMIX after the issue started. My issue starts on jeep start up then when I turn off my jeep and turn her back on she saws "normal operating pressure." Someone passed down to me years ago the knowledge of the sensor not sawing true. I am getting to the point of not having anymore ideas other then looking behind my instrument cluster and then trying to wire in a true sensor into the loop and cutting the one on the dash out. I just want to stop having to turn the jeep on then off then on again.

Run the Instrument Cluster self test and I bet you will come up with b0, b8 and Panel Open errors, all caused by communication errors between the PCM and IC. Remove the IC and clean the two connectors that connect to the IC and reinstall. This fixed a similar issue I had on my 04

Pardon my ignorance but what/where is the IC?

I've been having the problem as well but with something a little different. It was occurring and then after a fresh oil change it stopped. Now 900 miles in and it getting warmer out it's been doing it every time I'm in the Jeep after the engine gets hot.
The needle will tank and bounce a little when I am at a stop light and sometimes go back to normal and then other times it will go back to normal when I get on the gas and stay there when I am driving. Today I noticed the engine would idle a little different when the needle dove as in a tad rough/low idle. I need to check that again since even when the gauge was working fine sometimes when I would come to a light it would idle a tad rough/low. Again... not all the time
So now I am wondering is it a bad gauge or really something going on with my oil pressure. How would I know if my pump is going bad or something else?

I RAN IT AND IT SAID NO FAULTS :/

Sounds like it might just be the sending unit, espically if when the gauge shows 0 the engine does not show any signs of oil starvation

Thanks. Didn't mean to yell in that last post. I didn't realize I had my caps lock on and didn't look at the screen till jsut now. lol.
I've never heard an oil starved engine so I am assuming it knocks and makes terrible noise?

Yep, it will start with all sorts of valve train noise, you would know there is something wrong.

LOL, no problem, I did not take it that way, besides been married to a red head for going on 25 years, have two red headed kids and I am a red head so yelling is sorta of second nature around my house anyway. :)

LOL.
4 redheads in TX. What sun screen do you use, I should buy stock in it ;)

Sender units are very common. The first time I changed my oil, I couldn't get the oil filter off and sheared off my oil pressure sender unit. Found out the threads are 1/8 NPT and that's a convenient thread for a mechanical pressure gauge to thread into.

My oil pump did finally go out on me around 260k miles. It really didn't seem to act that much different to me, but I changed it very quickly once I was consistently getting lower pressure. IMO a mechanical gauge is a great and easy comparison, before running to the store to get another sending unit.

I always trust a mechanical gauge before electric. I wouldn’t even bother to try to tap into the wires behind the cluster. Just install a T at the block. Put the electrical sender on one side and run a mechanical gauge from the other. Plenty of places to put another gauge somewhere in the dash that’s easy to view.

My gauge cluster checked fine but i will do it again this weekend and maybe cleaning the connector wont hurt, my next step is the mechanical gauge test the oil pressure. I am getting close to putting a mechanical gauge up near me too. So many places to put it.

I have a 99TJ 2.5 and keep blowing my oil pressure sending unit. I am on the 4th one in 3 weeks. Mind you i only drive my TJ 25 miles or so a week. I have had the mechanic replacing it every time and he is geting them from advanced auto etc. i know these parts counters sell chinese junk but dam. I'm usually hovering around 40-70# of pressure. could there be something else i am not thinking of that could be causing this issue?

Install a mechanical gauge where the sensor is and check your pressure. If it’s within spec buy a genuine Mopar sensor.

Hey finding this thread a while after the most recent post but wanted to make sure I understood what yall reccomended. My pressure randomly dropped after driving for about 15 minutes but no change in RPM or anything. So reccomended is to change the oil sensor (try to avoid aftermarket 👍) and if that doesn't work what is the next reccomendation?

I have only had this jeep a few months and this is first gauge issue but I have bad memories of my last car being weird with oil all over which ended up blowing a head gasket and it not being worth to fix (it was a vw tho, so happy to see it go)
