Check Guages Warning

Hi everyone, hope everyone had a great 4th.

Anyone ever get a red dash warning to "Check Guages"?

Mine briefly came on today, and my "dummy" oil pressure guage was all they way to the left.

I turned the engine off, than on.. and it was functional again.

I checked under the hood... all was well.

I then proceeded to the trail head 30 miles away. Ran a moderate trail... went home. No issues.

All in all... 100 miles or so were driven AFTER the warning.


Factors:
- it was hot today... and the hood was very hot to the touch, but still manageable. Engine ran, smelled, looked, and sounded fine

- i drove the vehicle on the highway 25 miles before pulling over to get coffee. Thats when the warning came in, as I idled in place.

- the warning came on immediately after turning the AC off.

- i seem to recall this happening a few years back.. under the same circumstances (hot day in desert).

Any thoughts or ideas why this occurred.. and what should my concern level be?

My gut says i need to check/replace fuses (15 yrs old), oil pressure sensor, or could be a wiring issue with the dash board that is rarely affected by heat.

My 2000 did that once years ago, replaced the oil pressure sending unit...been fine ever since.

Bad oil pressure senders commonly cause that scary but false oil pressure gauge indication. It happened to me years ago too. Replace it with a non-store brand,preferably a Mopar.

Now I gotta find a way to justify a regear as i replace the oil pressure sender unit!

Happened to me as well, week 2 of ownership. The dealership that sold me the Jeep replaced the sending unit - dunno with what brand...

Justification: Our economy needs a boast and every good man must do his part. Only a real douchebag would not regear during our nation's time of need. Don't be a douchebag.

The only sure way to know it isn't just the sending unit is to have the axles rebuilt. And the cost to re-gear is pretty much the same. It just makes good financial sense to do a regear. Far cheaper than losing the engine. Heck, even some idiot on the forum said so! So go get those gears put in before it's too late!!

I have also had this happen when my brake fluid dropped very low due to a failed drum wheel cylinder-was accompanied by the red "Brake" light illuminating.
