I have a 2002 SE 4 cyl. manual with A/C. I've had a chirping sound coming from my engine (sounds like a small bird). We replaced the two tensions. We thought it was the alternator, and after we replaced the alternator, the chirp initially went away. But after driving for 10 minutes it came back. I noticed it was gone this morning when I started for work, but had returned by the time I got there. Is the engine god messing with me? I'm wondering if could have something to do with the fan belt heating up. The belt looks fine, but it has 55,000 miles on it. I'd appreciate your thoughts.

A bad idler (belt tensioner) pulley commonly causes that kind of chirping noise. I am not sure if you your post was saying you replaced it or not.
Hit a local Harbor Freight and pick up a Mechanics Stethoscope and listen to each of the accessories on the drive belt. Fast, easy and cheap method to pinpoint something like that.

With is running and chirping spray some WD40 on the idlers one at a time. Just because they are new does not mean they are good.

Do you have an air conditioner? I had a compressor fail once and the thing keep keicking in every several seconds. Drove me crazy and it took a long time to find it!
