Had to change my water pump recently. I got coolant on a new serpentine belt, and it won't stop squealing. The reason for it getting soaked was the water pump didn't seal good the first time, the gasket was too thin. Replaced with good felpro gasket. Got new tensioner and idle pulley also. Will it ever stop squealing?

Might want to pull the belt and check each of the pulleys, pumps and alternators and see if you can feel anything.
Alternatively spray water on each one and see if the noise goes away.
My guess is one of the new parts is bad.

What's confusing is that after adjusting the belt, it goes away for awhile, but squeals again on the next start up, but doesn't last too long. Once it stops squealing it runs smooth?
Could the Dayco brands just be not good rubber?

I just swapped my engine. I overtightened the belt. MasterPro. It shredded one of the ribs and I think the alternator is whining.
Pretty easy to be a little too tight or a little too loose.
I think I'd try tightening the belt...maybe a 1/2 turn on that 15mm bolt after you loosen up the tensioner.

Thank you, yeah, I've been slightly tightening one turn or so, and it's been helping. Just afraid to overtighten. I just hate when it comes back after I feel like I've got it adjusted.
If all else fails, I'll go with a gates belt, I've heard they are good.

I've used Gates Green Stripe belts for years , they work well ! Since you have nothing to lose with the old belt , you might try spraying brake clean on the belt and pulleys with it running to clean it off , ( Of course be super careful not to get into the fan or belt ?

I don’t think the belt manufacturer is an issue. Maybe do as Mac said to clean the belt - I’d start with flushing it with water to rinse all the coolant off then ensuring it is tightened properly.
You need a cricket belt tension gauge. The proper tension is a lot more than you think when checking by hand.
Yes. Mine was blue from continental but same size. I belive the spec for the belt is 180-200 pounds for a new belt and 140-160 for a used belt. I measured between the PS and the water pump. I was surprised how tight 150 was.
From the research I did the 9001 and 2 are for old school v-belts.
The 91132 is for up to 8 rib serpentine belts...
But I don't have any first hand experience...and while I've generally been successful with the twist method... I've never calibrated my instincts like I have with nuts and bolts and torque wrenches.

Yeah, that's the whole problem I think-- I've been afraid to over tighten it. I'll keep slowly adjusting. I'm sure a new belt has to "seat in" also. Thanks for all the advice!
I got mine after a recommendation on here. But when I took the screenshot yesterday I did notice it said for 7/8" belts. Looks like I'm ordering another one. Lol. Now I want to compare readings of the 2 tools on the same belt.
Well, I did work on cleaning up the belt today, and tightened it a bit more. It stopped squealing for now. I'll see what happens in the morning when I head out to work. Thanks for all the input!
