I've got an 05 TJ 4.0L with 135,000 miles. This morning it was cold, I started the TJ to warm it up and left ten minutes later. I had zero heat coming out and about a mile down the road the radiator popped and I've got a two inch rip on top of the radiator near the fill cap. I drove it back home but it didn't over heat . Any idea what could have caused this to happen,? The jeep is running fine otherwise. I just flushed the radiator last summer.

Congratulations you’ve discovered the lifetime of that component. That plastic can expand & contract only so many times. That’s the most common place they fail. Replace the radiator with a Mopar and enjoy another 140K miles.

Yup, the weakest point. You can go get a cheap aftermarket of the same design and put it in. It will likely last the life of your Jeep. Or, you can go get one of those heavy duty aluminum four core dealios. Very nice but not worth the money IMO.

Btw, yours lasted longer than mine.
