Has anyone attempted anything like this?
On paper it looks like the most time consuming aspect would be reverse engineering the one-wire PCI protocol. I believe the two-wire SCI bus is only used for diagnostics, so don't worry about that?
Looks like there is lots of information available for the protocols in play (up to a certain point it's all SAE standards... SAE J1850 VPW, SAE J2178, etc). As well as commercially available equipment to help with reverse engineering. Even COTS parts that speak J1850 VPW.
