Damn Jeep

So, I got my newly painted windshield frame installed, I've done the entire rear brake system including emergency brake shoes and hardware (rear disk), changed an axle bearing and seal, installed my door hinge mirrors, and a bunch of smaller things. My rear view mirror tab fell off the new windshield so I figured I'd take the jeep down to the store to pick up the correct adhesive. I'm pulling up my inclined driveway and something doesn't feel right. I stop in the middle of the incline and the jeep doesn't roll backwards! Ugh.

So, I bring her back to the garage, jack up the rear figuring I over-tightened the e-brake shoes....nope! Wheels spin fine. I jack up the front passenger side, wheel spins great. I jack up the front drivers side, yeah, you guessed it, wheel is locked! Damn caliper froze. Took it apart and the pads and rotor look ok, caliper is a ball of rust and the steel part of the brake hose has corrosion as well. Screw it. Went down to Napa and bought everything: Pads, rotors, calipers, hoses. Now front and rear will both be brand new. Never did get my ride in as I'll be doing this work today.

Just trying to get this thing ready for a sticker and more layers of the onion keep peeling off. That being said, I'm glad it happened in the driveway. just needed to bitch to a like minded group, as i am SURE a lot of you have had similar things happen.

Agreed. She was very neglected when I got her. If you've seen my spark plug thread you have an idea. Guess she just wants some love, and of course, $$$$$$!

Well said , especially when they’ve seen mud, water and /or salt, and possibly sat a bunch.

Most every one I see needs freshened up badly , I’ve done two and it seems endless.

I just got one that has 73,000 , extremely good mechanically , but still needed a few details addressed.

On the brakes, if you don’t flush them first.... you will likely get sticking calipers....and it random as everything.

A Jeep is much like a second wife. Both of them have no problem letting you know who's the boss. And you thought you were in control!

Ironically enough, it's one of my newer vehicles. My Dodge truck which is my DD is an 05, and everything else I have is much older.

I found a perfect one the next town over, no rust and no signs of rust. Its an 2002/earlier and my jeep is an 04 so it required some 'massaging' to be able to use the molding from the 04. Also, it was white and my jeep is black, so there was the fun of painting it.

And if it was me. I would have forgotten to pickup the mirror adhesive. lol
