Dana 35 Upgrade

Where are you ordering front and rear Dana 44's and for how much? The front TJ 44's came with 4.10's being that they only came on the Rubicon.
Good question... just quick found rear on ebay for roughly $1200, cant figure out where i saw the front. Must of been for JK or something.
Sorry, way to mess up on my 1st post.

So for someone who is a newbie to axle "re-gearing" voodoo
I am with ultimate open-30-35-3.07-kill me combo. Hate my life past 55mph and im sure that engine hates me even more. Cant even remember the last time i went on a date with my 6th gear. Plenty of speed for sand though(at least some positive).

I really want to do a 35super upgrade with Detroit locker to my rear.
I am a happy minimalist with 31" tires, have read plenty about D35vsD44 and Dana 35 will more than fit my style.
Did my part on reading about Detroit locker as well - i can live with it!

I can pick up Dana 35 with 4.10 gears for $200(im sure i can talk it down to $150). Will i, or will i not have to change out the carrier in it, if i go with super upgrade?
From what i have read so far, carrier change needs special attention, procedure and tools. Majority of prices for such job from what i have seen so far, hover around $800.
800(job) + 150 (axle) + 1000(super+detroit) is a bit too much $. Especially considering that Dana 30 will have to be regeared.

Roughly for that ^ price, if i did my search correctly, i can order front and rear open Dana 44 with 3.73 gears. I think i can live with 3.73's and eventually throw in locker into the rear. Plus i can do all the job myself...

Would you, ohhh the wise wranglers, give some guidance to me the mortal one?
No matter where you get it, a super 35 kit is 1800$ ish. You have no choice but to change the carrier. It's hard to believe you have the 3.07 combo the 4 banger almost always had 3.73 or 4.10s. keep researching.

No worries, was just curious. You can install JK diffs but it will take work, welding, and new wheels. So not cheap :D

Not 4 banger, it is 4.0 6 cyl.
Ehhh, i was hoping that would not be the case. In that price range, there are sure much better options.

Thank you for reply!

Not really better choices, the 8.8 swap will cost just as much if not more and not really be any better for you driving needs.

But if you can get another axle with 4.10s already in it. You can regear without a s35 kit.

I do want to upgrade this Dana 35 though, and i do need rear locker.
S35 kit is on my list because it fits my needs, and if what Jerry and other been saying is valid, it will handle everything i will throw at it... obviously keeping in mind that i have no plans to go above 31" tires and i don't rock crawl.

At this point it is simply a price matter for me, and what exactly i'm willing to spend money on.
$1800 for S35 for me is like choosing between a Chinese made tool kit for $100 and US made for $200.
At that price, i will pick up US made. But if Chinese was $50, id probably grab Chinese.

The S35 is more than enough for 31's and a locker. If you are re-gearing anyway, there should be nothing extra for the S35 install since all of the pieces have to pulled and swapped for the gear change.
