When we bought our home here in Arizona and moved in in June of this year, we knew that having a pool in the backyard meant we needed a way to make sure our kids didn't get out the back door without us knowing. Our oldest is a very good swimmer, so we aren't worried about her, it's our 4 year old and 1 year old we are concerned about.
Anyways, we bought some of these to give them a try:

They are loud as hell, so when one of them managed to get the lock open on the door, we could hear these things from anywhere in the house without an issue.
However, in short order they failed and only started to work some of the time (this was within a month of owning them).
I left a pretty scathing review on the product and basically said in summary that if your child's life depends on it, a product that only works "sometimes" isn't going to get the job done.
Well, the seller (who is clearly Chinese) has been reaching out to me on numerous occasions via personal email. First they offered me $20 to take down the review, then after another week of me not responding they upped it fo $40, and now we are up to $60. Keep in mind I haven't responded to ANY of their emails, but they obviously know I am reading them. Sorry guys, but you can't buy me for $60.
Anyways, the point of this post is merely to shed light on how deceptive some of these reviews can be. There is an entire industry built around generating positive reviews for products, as well as removing negative reviews.
Fortunately I'm smart enough to see through most of this stuff (especially with my background in internet marketing), but a lot of people might not be able to. For the price of these things, I figured it was worth giving them a try. We are now switching to a door lock latch that will go at the top of the door and not allow anyone to open the door unless they are of an adult height.
