Dim tail light

In order to put on my new tail light guards, I cheated and instead of disconnecting the tail light at the OEM connector, I cut the 3 wires instead. I spliced the wires back with spade connectors color by color and now the light is very dim and the directional flashes super fast. Should I just get rid of the connectors and twist the wires together for better contact?

My bet is the housing had a poor ground connection from having installed that tail light guard. Poor ground issues are common from installing them which is one reason I usually recommend removing them.

My thought was bad ground as well, but would be nice to hear it from OP experience...

Oh yeah, always post the fix when you can. People stumble upon threads like this down the road and it's always a great help to others when people update the thread with the solution.

Believe it or not the bulb was just slightly loose. I just tapped it and all was well.
