I have a fair amount of play in the distributor on my 1997 Sport with a 4.0. All of the guides I see say that I need to find TDC on the compression stroke on cylinder #1 when replacing the distributor, and when I replace the distributor end up with the rotor pointing at the #1 position. The AC compressor and heater hoses make it pretty difficult to get to the #1 spark plug, though. Could I do the same thing, but find TDC on say #5, and install the distributor with the rotor pointing to the #5 position?
