I'd like to make a brief review of my Dobinsons 3 inch heavy duty springs for my tj.
They were about $180 or so on Amazon. I really wanted OME but could not find any company that made heavy dusty 3 inch springs. Why did I want that? I just did.
I spent several days researching. Very little on jeep forums. As it turns out these are very popular for land cruisers and other off-road vehicles in Europe and australia. They also make them for other SUVs too.
I found some very good comparisons that convinced me to get them. On some non jeep forums, I found 4-5 people that said the Dobinsons were "substantially" better ride quality and off-road than their OME springs. I found that hard to believe. After seeing one guy with a jeep, and a truck and a couple other SUVs say this maybe there is some truth to it.
I do not have and have not had OME springs. I am not bashing them. If they made a 3 inch heavy spring I would have gone with them.
I am very impressed with these springs and gladly will buy them again. It held the weight of my bumper and winch and didn't sag at all. I drove them around my friends land a bit (he's got ravines, dirt, mud, some rocks, etc) and they were great. Very comfortable. A tad bit less flex than I thought due to the thick coils. But I see no issues with that, as heavier tires should compress them a bit more.
Frankly I thought the color was gross at first. After putting them on I actually like it. Honestly I was shocked. I thought I'd want to throw up. Not that it's hard to repaint them. Yes the red shocks look stupid. I painted them orange for the time being. They well be replaced with some bilstiens or something else hopefully soon. Painted the shocks orange to match diff guard, and control arms.
My apologies it's dark already. Meant to do this right when I got them on but waited a few weeks to see how they were. I'm impressed. 10/10 would buy again. I have no problem recommending them. My next jeep I'll get some OME springs to see how they compare. Yes my tires look stupid they are 30s and I am going to get 33s this spring. I need to get my CCW permit, and a new smaller pistol before I get tires. And to anyone that doesn't like the color, paint them. Not hard. I might repaint them at some point but I'm not sure.
I netted almost exactly 3 inches with a stock bumper, winch plate, and winch with steel cable. Advertised as being able to hold 100 pounds or so and not sag. It's been a few weeks and it sure seems to be true. Obviously that may change over the next 6 months but I hope not.
