The "T" should be between the manifold connection and the tee. It is located there to maintain system vacuum when vacuum being produced is low, just like the detail.
The check valve set up that came with the new stuff is nothing like the old set up. I might have it run incorrectly through but I don't think so. That would leave a ton of excess line and the 90 fitting makes no sense to run to the manifold which is why I ran it to the servo.
