I’ve been following the advice on here with great success for a long time, but this is my first actual post, so I apologize if this has already been asked or is posted in the wrong section.
Backstory: The PO of my 05 Rubicon installed the Edge Trail Jammer kit on the Jeep (along with a number of questionable mods, most of which have already been removed or replaced with better stuff). My initial thought was to just remove the trail jammer kit completely and return it to stock, but it seems OEM intakes/filter boxes are difficult to source and my local dealer is unable to order any of the parts, so my best bet is eBay or a junkyard (but TJs seem to be stripped down instantly in any junkyards these days).
I don’t mind keeping the actual trail jammer control module and larger throttle body but I want to replace the filter with something a bit better since my Jeep sees quite a bit of mud and dust. The current filter is an Airaid (700-421 I believe). I know to stay away from K&N as a replacement, so my question is: what’s the best solution?
A. Is an Amsoil filter+pre-filter better than airaid as a replacement? Is this as efficient at filtering fine dust as a typical paper filter?
B. Is there a better aftermarket filter/intake assembly for filtration (maybe S&B?) I’m pretty unfamiliar with how well the aftermarket filters/intakes work.
C. Should I pick up an OEM filter box on eBay and replace the CAI with stock but keep the trail jammer control module? Will that affect its programming?
D. Should I just rip it all out and revert it all back to stock?
Any advice on the best option is very much appreciated!
