Electric window kit for a TJ question

On the opposite end of the argument, I reeeeeallly like my radar cruse control, rear camera and auto brake hold among other tech features in the JLU.

As I said earlier, I have yet to try a vehicle with adaptive cruise. One one hand, it would be nice to not have to kick it off and/or reset it to move with traffic; but OTOH, I'm concerned that I'd become yet another "pack driver" who just follows along with whatever/whomever is leading the pack. *shrug* I probably wouldn't want to pay the price either way - the false God of our day "Convenience" exacts its price ALWAYS. But I would like to try adaptive cruise sometime.

Rear cameras are mostly a crutch nobody was asking for - belt lines got ridiculously high restricting rearward visibility so our Benevolent OverLords dictated yet more tech to solve a problem that they caused in the first place. I was taught how to use my mirrors and/or to simply open the driver's door and look back! But they're a game changer for large trailers, no spotter needed, no getting out and walking back. That's a "Convenience" I'd be willing to pay for.

Wife's car has the auto brake hold. Its OK, I wouldn't pay an extra cent for it as I know how to use the hand brake - but wait, these idiots are now making the hand brake electronic for some braindead reason. I also just picked her car up yesterday because the fucking "telematics" module went out. I would have just let it go but its known to drain the battery when it fails, plus I purchased the "lifetime" extended warranty 10 years ago when we bought the car for this very reason. Thank Goddess! I don't normally purchase extended warranties, but this one was "lifetime" and I didn't trust car electronics then, and I certainly don't now. This is the 3rd time I've used it - I had previously gotten about 50% of my money back, but this fiasco caused me to sail right past break even to about 2X. All so her PHOOOOOONNE will work - even she doesn't care that much!

So.......... should we make a new thread about actual electric window options/tech and let you guys finish each other off in here or what? 😉

Ehhh. I’ll answer.

There are cheap kits on Amazon for about $75. The instructions suck, but if you have some deductive skills, you can figure it out just by looking at a few of the photos. I didn’t like the switches or wiring that came with my kit, so I bought a second switch harness that had some better switches and I changed the design. Rather than have two switches on the driver door and one on the passenger, I installed the driver side pair of switches next to my shifter. I changed the harness design as well not daisy chain three switches together. Each switch has a direct connection to the door motor and then they share a higher amp/gauge wire and fuse.

Instructions say you need 300mm between the motor and the drive gear. That’s more than you’ll have room for. So do your best installing the motor behind your pocket and it *should work.

My only problem is my window tracks are binding/causing my window to struggle going up/down on the driver side, but this was a problem even with the crank. I’ve been lubing the tracks with tri-flow but it only helps so much. So be sure that your windows freely go up and down or you might risk burning the motors out (mine get pretty hot).

Did you ever find a way to clean/lube your window tracks?? I can't get the motors to consistently take the window up & down. I've greased the tracks, the felt and the cables of the window as well as the new motor setup. The motor just isn't enough to move the window up or down. When cracking by hand it seems easy enough (and easier than before I lubed them) but it's still binding up. Any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated.
