Engine code P0442

Was driving to work yesterday at 5:30am and noticed my check engine light was on, pulled over, did the on/off trick and it threw P0442, I took the gas cap off and put it back on and it still hasnt gone away, should I disconnect my battery and let it reset to see if it comes back? I checked my evap canister and all my hoses and elbows were intact.

It’s a tricky code. The test is only run on a cold start when the gas tank is between 3/4 and 1/4 full. So you could reset it and see if it comes back.

If it's an 04-06 , that's almost standard issue. A new Mopar gas cap may solve it , buy there are a number of fittings from the solenoid all the way to the tank to check...a smoke test is often effective.

I have an 01, and I actually just had a smoke test done about a week and a half ago because I wanted to make sure I didn't have any vacuum leaks. No smoke was coming from anywhere

Look at the o ring on the gas cap. Seriously. And feel of it and see if it's hard.

Also, if it was fueled up running by anyone...that will do it.

A new fuel cap, by Mopar, often does it.

2001, the problem was resolved anyway when I reset my battery, no codes since
