EV thread

How many of them have a ICE vehicle too? Is there anyone who has fully committed to EV?

Everyone but my neighbor. The two Teslas are all they have. They also have solar panels on their roof, use a drop cord powered snowblower and mow their lawn with two electric robotic lawnmowers.

They also don't talk to me.

You can buy carbon offsets from them. :ROFLMAO:

I burn wood in my firepit instead of gas so I'm green.

Getting a high mileage older Tesla is the equivalent of getting a new iPhone 7 today. Technology is rapidly improving making them undesirable even if they still work. Processing speed, capability etc.

If the damn batteries weren't so outrageously expensive - and they didn't have all the "technology" that really isn't needed in the first place, I'd consider one. A Tesla or similar that is, not an iPhone. A 60 mile real world range at 60 MPH using SLA or other CHEAP batteries would fit my weekly routine very well. Such a vehicle "could be" cheap and reliable if the damn screens and crap were left off.

In the $1.2 trillion secondhand market, prices for battery-powered cars are falling faster than for their combustion-engine cousins. Buyers are shunning them due to a lack of subsidies, a desire to wait for better technology and continued shortfalls in charging infrastructures. A fierce price war sparked by Tesla Inc. and competitive Chinese models are further depressing values of new and used cars alike, threatening earnings at rivals like Volkswagen AG and Stellantis NV.

Because most new vehicles in Europe are sold via leases, automakers and dealers who finance these transactions are trying to recover losses from plummeting valuations by raising borrowing costs. That’s hitting demand in some European markets that were in the vanguard of the shift away from fossil fuel-powered propulsion. Some of the biggest buyers of new cars, including rental firms, are cutting back on EV adoption because they’re losing money on resales, with Sixt SE dropping Tesla models from its fleet.

Ayvens, a fleet management company handling around 3.5 million vehicles, said the uncertainty around EV technology will convince more customers to lease rather than buy — accelerating a shift away from owning a car to driving it for a fee.

“EVs are a booster of the transition of ownership to usership,” said Annie Pin, Ayvens’ chief commercial officer.

Fun Fact: The extraction methods for lithium and cobalt can be very energy intensive – leading to air and water pollution, land degradation, and potential for groundwater contamination.

GM Issues Stop-Sale Order On Chevrolet Blazer EV After Breakdown Reports

Following reports of problems from InsideEVs, Edmunds and owners, GM hits pause on Blazer EV sales for now.

Following a week of reports about problems with the new Chevrolet Blazer EV, including InsideEVs reporter Kevin Williams experiencing a breakdown in one during a road trip, General Motors has halted sales of the electric vehicle to fix certain software issues.

Automotive News reports that the stop-sale order was issued late Friday and affects "a limited number" of Blazer EVs. GM did not say how many are impacted; about 1,000 are currently for sale nationwide, according to Cars.com.

Chevrolet engineers are working on solving issues related to the vehicle's touchscreen, "and, rarely, during charging attempts at some public DC fast chargers," according to Automotive News. Kevin encountered both issues during his attempted Ohio to North Carolina drive this week, which ended with the car stuck at an Electrify America station in rural Virginia.

"We are aware that a limited number of Blazer EV owners have experienced some software quality issues," the automaker said in a statement to InsideEVs. "To ensure our customers have a great experience with their vehicle, we are temporarily pausing sales of Blazer EVs. Our team is working quickly to roll out a fix, and owners will be contacted with further information on how to schedule their update. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Scott Bell, vice president of Chevrolet, added: “Customer satisfaction is our priority and as such, we will take a brief pause on new deliveries.” The automaker said the issue is not safety-related.
