I wonder how long theyll warranty tires?

Kinda wasted on urban folk, but think about what you could do on an off-road obstacle if each wheel could be independently controlled. I think I've said before in this thread that the possibilities are intriguing, and I'm not opposed to EVs just out of principle...I just won't be interested until they stop compromising the experience and start enhancing it.

Just about any broadside impact is going to total the vehicle out.

This is where insurance costs become even more egregious, (is that even possible?)
and the Ins co's will project their risk of that cost to all customers

Standard unibody construction. IDK specifically why, but typically the rear quarters of a unibody are a structural member. Unibody-on-frame is what's really weird. It seems like that's just unnecessary weight.

As far as I know. I'm curious about panel replacement techniques. I know a lot of panels are glued/bonded today, but there's still welding. I wonder if these vehicles can be welded on, or if the electronics are too delicate.

A truck seems like a really bad thing to not be able to replace the bedsides. The other vehicles are a bit different.

I think "truck" is too loose of a term for a vehicle like a Rivian, and I doubt any will be used like a traditional truck, just a standard SUV. I think open-bed-utility-vehicle would better describe these vehicles, or maybe Suburban-Highway-Interstate-Transporter

I agree that it's mega dumb, but it's not unprecedented if you compare it to a Chevy Avalanche or a first gen Honda Ridgeline instead of a traditional pickup.

Seems maybe Honda learned the lesson because the current Ridgeline has a separate bed.

That's kinda my thoughts too, or like an old Blazer or Bronco.

Ford had a unibody truck way back in '62-63, but they had issues with these truck popping doors open when flexed/loaded corner-to-corner.

My neighbor has one and I checked it out , This is NOT a truck . Think of a cross between a El Camino and a Chrysler mini van with dozens of clever storage compartments. All in a large 7100 lb package with weird ass 21" tires and an entire glass dash that Zorba would die for. It's a $ 100,000.00 novelty vehicle in my opinion . But if that's what you want and have the cash go for it. This Truck replaced his 2019 GMC Canyon .

I knew the new one had a defined quarter panel, but I hadn't thought much about it. It looks Honda did separate the rear quarters/bedsides, but it's still tied into the unibody construction. I wonder why.

There are neighbors that had a Model S for years up here and drove it in crappy condition . They traded it off last year for one of the cheaper Tesla models last year. These aren't car people , just rich people .

magic @Zorba conveyance apparatus is more like it, just need to stuff more tech in there, perhaps a one-touch exterior color changing app at $199/month would be in order, that would be neat.

I don't even see the difference between that and any other truck body

If I had somehow gotten sucked into buying a Rivian without a real understanding of the potential catastrophe that awaited me with a small dent like that I'd have probably just left the dent there

Uni - "Frame " with separate bed , at least it allowed twist between the cab and bed.

good info...my parents have one and I just took the seam where the bed met the body as an implication of a separate bed.

As to why...because that's all Honda knows how to do I guess.
