EV thread

Spent the weekend on Miami Beach and we used the Waymo system instead of moving our rental car around and paying to park everywhere.

Worked really well and wasn’t unreasonably priced. My big complaint is it doesn’t always pick you up and drop you off right where you are or need to be.

They use a Jaguar like this

The kids enjoyed getting hauled around in driverless cars and we didn’t die.

Would recommend.

Bonus point - nobody to tip.

We have those all around the Phoenix area. A coworker told me about them having specific pick-up and drop-off points. He and the wife had to walk 100 yards at a restaurant when the vehicle drove right past it to the drop-off point. Mostly not an issue, but when it’s 115 in the shade I would want to be dropped off right at the door.

Of course they did, they're being built to dominate, as I understand it. No matter to me how fast they do it, I just can't give a shit about driving appliances. And if I was buying American today, the only choice is really Ford, but they can feck right off with the Mach-E. It's not a Mustang and the corporate d-bag who though it'd be good to use the badge on that PoS should be shot. I'm guessing he/she went to work for Jag shortly after... :ROFLMAO:

I've never been a massive FoS fan, the Member's Meeting and Revival races at the actual Goodwood Circuit are my jam. FoS to me has always seemed more commercially driven, and now, apparently, car makers are actually focusing on building cars to blitz the hill for the exposure. Somewhat lower key but reminiscent of the whole "who's got the biggest dick at the Nurburgring" thing.

I really don't understand the reflexive dislike for EVs. Cars and truck are nothing but tools or toys. Having strong negative feelings about somebody else's tools and toys is dumb. Unless we are bagging on cybertrucks and their owners of course. I won't own a current EV because none of them are anywhere close to working for my needs. I'm looking forward to the day that one will have the range, towing capacity, and price point where it will work. All the torque at the first RPM is a really good thing.

I can't say as I have a dislike of EVs as a concept. As they're currently (see what I did there?) implemented, I want nothing whatsoever to do with them. If they'd make one the way I want one, I'd probably buy one - esp. if "Solid State" batteries turn out to be the panacea that everybody is hoping for. I doubt that it will, such things seldom work out, but one could hope.

For me it's because in my experience (with a couple exceptions) the owners are self righteous a holes that genuinely believe their car is good for the environment.

I've got a number of reason I'm not interested in owning or driving one, but I certainly feel you on that one. They don't seem to hesitate in drinking the Kool-Aid when it comes to the rhetoric. The ones that pontificate and feel the need to educate you about it tend to chap my ass a bit more. I used to engage, now I just walk away. I don't have the patience for it anymore.

I actually enjoy driving, which is one reason I have manual transmission vehicles, and also why I don’t have anything that tries to drive for me.

Same here. If it were just a vehicle and not a nanny it’d be great.
