I get that speed sells brands. But I wish they made simple instead
My guess the Chinese EVs would dent Tesla's sales by 1/2 or more (and kill most US automakers) if they were allowed here. I'm watching the Slate truck for going the opposite direction with affordability and longer range. They need a car option, but the SUV build sort of does that. Just without decent aerodynamics.
I'm still not a fan of self driving tech. I've had too many issues with assisted driving tech. It probably works for a lot of driving until you get in rain, snow, or confusing situations. It will help the old drivers stay on the road longer and will teach all the newer generations not to drive.
I also wish they made a REx that could power the car at 75mph and still charge it. 1 liter turbo with an 8-10 gallon tank, cut battery range 25% to balance weight would probably do it. I'd take that over self driving and 0-60 supercar speed anyday. I will refuse to buy any car that can't reliably make it to my inlaws and back unless I ask them to plug in like some gas money begger on the side of the road.
We do lots of day trips to central and western NE where there is almost zero infrastructure. There are barely gas stations in some areas. Certainly few charger stations.
Once they outlaw gas cars it will be interesting to see what they force us to buy. My guess, self driving spyware, that locks us into subscriptions, and can cut us off remotely when we get out of line. Like how Tesla can lock people out of their "gas station" super charging network if they step out of line.
