Hello, I have a 2000 Jeep Wrangler 2.5lt manual and just replaced with these wild peaks. My tires size is 31*10.50*R15. Giving this size I could only get the LT’s. The problem I’m having is they feel sluggish and very umm heavy.. like very heavy. I don’t have a lift and stock everything else. The tires I replaced were the exact same size and not factory but felt totally different. These are about 3 days old and they are willing to change them out for something less aggressive like the Cooper discoverers at3 xlt. Is this feeling of extreme heavy going to go away once the tires are broken in? It almost feels like I’m riding with my emergency break on, or towing something but I’m not. Would the copper be a better choice? I drive probably 95% road and 5% off-road realistically because it’s my dd.

I got the AT3w,s about 2 months ago and its like riding on a passenger vehicle tire compared to my Wranglers that came off, mine are also very quiet.
Check your tire pressure and put it up to max if you are not going off road, make sure they didnt leave anything amiss when they did the alignment.
I went with 235/75R/15,5 on a stock TJ but the AT3ws are a bit bigger than the 235/75/15,s that came off.
They must be rubbing or your brakes are binding?

How would I know if the tire is rubbing? I just had a complete brake job done by the same people two months ago. They feel glued to the ground and heavy. I do have the 4 cylinder though. I have the tire pressure all the way up to 40 psi. I could go to the Max 50 but I don’t know why I would need to do that.

Maybe they adjusted the brakes with the tire change given they fitted the brakes 2 months ago? Take it back to be checked new tires should be an improvement not a hindrance.
Stock TJ,s are not really meant to have 31,s,, take it over a few high speed bumps they may be a bit bigger than what you took off.
I cant answer your questions on the sluggishness as I have a 4.0 and run it stock standard but my AT3W,s were great the moment I drove away from the tire centre, they shouldn't need any break in period.
Is that 40 PSI cold or hot? Max PSI is hot I believe?

Your issue is.....

The Wildpeak AT 31" is a 50# tire

You've got a 4 cylinder.

31 is the absolute max you can run with that engine. At least tolerable.
The Falken is a bit on the heavy side size to size..brand to brand

If you've got a brake hanging up..it would pull to that side.
If both are hanging up it won't pull but you'd notice something. Aroma..heat...something to alert you of a hanging brake(s)

I think you've just got a heavy tire that has sucked all the life from the 2.5

Get on a slight slope. Stop. Put in neutral or clutch in whilst in gear.
Let off brake. Does the Jeep roll with the slope? If not your brakes are stuck. If so you've got too heavy of a tire for your liking.

Even though I have a 4.0 my TJ rolls smoother/easier in neutral with my new wildpeaks so that's a great suggestion for OP.
I am not in US but I am assuming OP,s tires are Light Truck? In OZ the LT rating is for both insurance purposes and longevity so I get a bit confused with abbreviations. My wildpeaks are defiantly bigger than the same for same worn Wranglers that were on it when I bought it,
Q Would the OP,s 31 to 31 tire change really hang back a 4 banger as is being suggested by OP?

‘Just putting this out there for comparison, but I just put some on my TJ replacing the BFG KO2s that came on it. Both sets of tires are 33/12.50R15. I’ve run 28 psi in both sets of tires. The Jeep runs & drives great with the new Falkens.

Not really....but...
The 4 banger is anemic. Without knowing his prior brand I don't know his weight...

I can tell you the cooper he mentioned is 6 pounds lighter 31 to 31.....

Depending on what he was running before and the condition of them..

Hell they could've been chen shin for all I know on the smaller/lighter side to begin with. Maybe they were closer to a p235 than his new 31 wildpeaks ..

Lastly.... we don't know his expectations?!? They might be unrealistic with a 2.5 and that little 4 banger.

As posted above...you should NOT have the tire pressure that high....
Maximum pressure of 33 when cold...
I would jack the vehicle up, chock the other tires, throw in neutral and hand spin the tires to see if the brakes are dragging...
You might think about going to the a lighter weight tire as posted above; the heavier tire drains what little HP your 4 cylinder Jeep has.
The tires that I have on my '01 Sport 4.0L manual are Firestone Destination AT3 255/75x17 and they weigh 37 lbs.

It just has a complete brake job by the same place. I never had any expectations when getting the tires other than they would roll similar to the previous same size tires. I don’t know why they feel this way and I’m not trying to be picky at all. It just feels maybe too heavy. Or, if possible, too much grip and maybe that’s it.

Grip shouldnt slow you down. Nor should a difference of 6lbs or whatever it is. Check your brakes. Take it back and explain. Have them drive it.

I just put falkens on mine. And they drive great. I had wrangler street tires before. And these seem even smoother and quieter. But i have a 4.0.

The only other tires I think that would fit my rim is cooper discoverer at3 xlt or the general grabber atx. And from what I can tell the coopers are more toward the road driving I do. I don’t know how true that is. And suggestions between the two?

I just cant see the experience you are having with new tires as being the tires if they are same size as the ones that came off? They do look a bit aggressive but they are not.
Not sure if these are an anyway fit? but perhaps they have been fitted wrong side out?

I have read the reviews on both....
Both have a 60K mile rating, about equivalent in all respects other than the Grabber is Three Peak Mountain Snowflake rating...
I haven't seen nor do I expect to see SNOW in Jacksonville unless I travel to northern GA or southern S. Carolina.
Looks like it comes down to what kind of deal you can get on the tires and their availability.

I think you should take up the shops offer of exchange before its too late.
Only you drive your jeep and we cant tell the difference like you can but if you are not happy with them now you will never be happy with them.

If nothing else was done...swapping from one 31 to another....it just doesn't work like that.

Everything you're saying tells me you were running a smaller tire....
Had dreams of a bigger tire...
Realized it's killing your 4 banger...
Now you're looking for some way, some how, to still run a 31 without killing the power the wild peak in 31" did.

Just saying.

Hey I appreciate you seeking honesty, but I have 0 reason to lie about anything… this is a forum and I would disclose if they were a different size. They ARE the same size, once again 31x10.50xr15… the only thing I have said is that they were older and yea needed replaced. Hence, me buying new tires.

Cheers to that...

Just know I sell tires...A LOT...

If you took a 31x10.50 all season tire (low rolling resistance) and then put on a Super Swamper of same size...you might feel the lugs at slower speed but even with a heavier swamper carcass...you won't go from acceptable feeling to OH MY these tires are like a two ton heavy thing.

The only thing that could possibly be it if this is true is that the tread was worn down on the old and I think they were future scramblers. I made sure the exact same size was ordered because to be honest I did not want to change the feel. If I keep the wildpeaks I just hope that this feeling changes after some wear. I just don’t know if the coops might feel different because of tread design or weight or compound. I, unlike you, know very little about tires.
