I live in the desert southwest and during the heat of the summer I’ve had an overheating issue when in stop and go traffic with the a/c running. Replaced the thermostat and flushed cooling system without success so I bit the bullet and purchased a radiator from Extreme Terrain and a high flow water pump through amazon. I finally was able to install it yesterday and today was sort of a test. I immediately noticed that the temperature gauge is about 15 degrees cooler when running the interstate at 75 mph. I paid a premium for the radiator but feel it has been worth every penny I paid ($556). I also replaced the thermostat and the fan shroud while I had everything apart. My only issue is that the new radiator is a bit thicker than the stock radiator and when I mounted the fan shroud and the coolant recovery bottle the bottle was slightly touching the power steering pump belt pulley. I had to put a strap to slightly pull the recovery tank slightly forward as the pulley was definitely wearing a hole in the recovery tank. I’ll figure out a long term fix for this issue.

I’m a bit surprised, though. I daily drive in Phoenix rush hour stop and go traffic with 115+ summer temps with the AC on and don’t have any problems using a Gates water pump and a Murray factory replacement radiator. Maybe I’m just lucky.

My problem was that i had the stock radiator on mine. As well as the original water pump. My TJ has 176k miles so it was probably time to replace these 2 items anyway.
