Fixing a panel

Looking for suggestions on mending a side panel that is coming apart. Thinking a strong needle and fishing line. Thanks for your suggestions!

You're going to need a really strong needle and some strong thread. While you could do it yourself, if it was me, I'd just take it to a good upholstery shop. They'd fix it in 30 minutes and probably not charge you all that much.

There are kits to do top repairs but your best bet may be an upholstery shop. They have sewing machines that can make quick easy work of it.

...or a place that does boat tops. Or sails. A local sailmaker made a top for buddy's Land Cruiser that turned out really nice. Either of those will have the correct machines and thread to make fast work of that repair.
