Frame and Underbody coating

Now that it is warm out again I am ready to undercoat my jeep. To start, my jeep has minimal rust l, but some spots are gaining surface rust. I want to "rust-proof" my jeep even though I know that it is almost impossible to completely stop.

Currently I'm looking for the best products to use because I've heard conflicting views on everything. I thought about POR-15, chassis black, eastwood frame coat, and more.

Other than that I would like to know:
-What I can and can't coat (of course not going to coat rubber objects like wiring, breathers, etc)

-everything I can possibly know about the preparations

-how much time will it take? I'm thinking a dry weekend after I prep an entire day before?


Every season I usually wash the frame really well and apply paint/ primer, but now I'm looking for something more permanent.

Most importantly, what can and can't be treated? (FYI, I pretty much have no idea what I'm doing — very little mechanical experience at this point.)

Hi everyone. I'm new to the group. Bought my first Jeep back in June. I'm a Southern Boy now living in Ohio so I asked some of the local guys about under coating to prevent rust. One told me he and his family had always used Husqvarna chain and bar oil. They would cut it with kereosene and spary it on. The reason is that it contains phosphoric acid which neutralizes any rust and you can get it in places were you could never get paint or undercoating.
They use the really thick stuff. I found the 30 weight at Lowes and tried without cutting it. It seems to work well anthough I used a piano brush. It will drip for a couple of days so don't apply it or park inside.
The stuff must have a good deal of paraffin because it leaves a thin film that is almost dry to the touch. I am going to try it in a pump sprayer and hit the places I couldn't reach with the brush. That may require a little thinning out.
You have to do it every winter but I did everything I could reach with 1 qt. for around 7 bucks.

I used a flexible 360 wand that attaches to any spray on can you prefer. I first used a rust converter with the wand inside the frame. Then I used a heavy paint inside the frame. The outside I just use standard rust-o-leum. its cheap and found everywhere and I can reapply anytime.

If you're referring to the Fluid Film, the directions right on the back of the bottle are all you need.

Go to eastwoodpaints.com..they bare the laeadre in undercoating and paints. I just bought a kit that has an 18" wand that you stick inside the frame and slowly pull it out while spraying . Its sort of lik por15 for the inside of frame..You have a good frame its worth putting money in the jeep. Its incredible the value these jeeps keep on the market. I got a great deal on a 1997 TJ hardtop, 6 cyl which was garage kept all its life and im doing everything poss to keep her alive..I LOVE MY JEEP!!

I've been taking my Jeeps and other cars into Krown Rustproofing on an annual basis for the last 20 years or so and have always been happy with their work. As I work on them I also touch them up with Krown T-40 that I buy from them in 1 gallon jugs. I use a shutz gun and it's amazingly accurate and "mess-free".
