Frame repair thoughts

In the market for a TJ and finding one without a rusted frame is proving to be extremely difficult. Found a seller that said he had frame repair done about 4 years ago in which they cut the rust out and welded in new steel. Would you personally purchase a Tj with frame repairs done? Only have 2 pics of the frame atm but any opinion on it would be appreciated.

Usually when the frame has rusted out, the rest of the Jeep will have rust problems. Fenders, floorboards, and body mounts are usually the places where TJ's rust. If I were to buy a TJ with a repaired frame, I would need to see that there are no other existing rust problems and receive a heavy discount on the price.

With the amount of rust free TJ's left, I really wouldn't bother with a repaired frame, but that is just me. I'm sure you could find a great Jeep with a repaired frame, but when you have the option to get one with the original, rust free frame, I'd go with that option any day of the week. You may have to travel a bit, but it will be worth it.

Like @jodomcfrodo stated, too many rust free Jeeps out there to buy. Save your money and travel if you have to in order to find one. Don’t waste your money on a rust bucket.

I would buy a well repaired frame if done well.

But that one looks pretty poorly done from the two pictures alone

A few years back we bought a JK and thought it'd be cool to get an old Wrangler to go with it. Knew nothing about TJs so we found a '98 that looked great and bought it. Ended up having severe frame rot around the body mounts. Ended up repairing it, having someone weld new metal around the mounts. They did a great job and it drives great now. I'd say take some pics and bring them to a trusted mechanic and ask their opinion. A frame repair done well will drive like new.

I'd only buy a Safe T Capped TJ if it was professionally done by a shop officially recommended by Auto Rust Technicians, the guys who make the caps. And, as others have said, as long as there is no other rust and if the price reflects a modest discount.
