Front left brake caliper locked up

Finally got the Jeep off the lift and took it for a test drive. Went about 3 miles when the front left pretty much locked up. I hope I didn’t completely ruin my new black Magic Brakes I just installed. I think I need a new caliper. Do I trust autozone or does someone have a link for a good one I should be using?

Did you flush your entire brake system or just change pads?

As far as new calipers, check out the calipers sold by @mrblaine at Black Magic Brakes. The prices are reasonable and he doesn't sell junk. The few dollars saved at Autozone are a false economy.

Followed the directions to a t. I got new fluid all in it. It locked up on the way to the shop on the old brakes. The problem was my wife was driving it and not me. So I never figured out exactly what it was until now. I thought it was the rear drum that locked up. When I pushed the caliper back in it seemed to go in with no

Autozone has 2 durolast calipers In stock. Don’t know if I should take this route but that may be the only thing that gets the job done today

So I got new calipers on it. Right side bleed out fine. I’m having a issue bleeding the front left. I just checked the line all the way up to the porportion valve and I have no kinks in it. Now I’m starting to think that the valve is the real problem all along

Both calipers have the bleed valve positioned above where the brake line attaches?

Ya I had the fittings up. There was no fluid coming out the left caliper. I was bleeding it solo using the line to a bottle trick. I had no fluid almost like I had the bleeder valve shut. So I took the banjo bolt off the caliper and hit the brake petal 3 times. I had fluid come out of the line just fine. So I hooked it back up. Tried bleeding again. This time it worked. Just took it for a 2 mile test drive and had zero issues.

Everything should have been flushed already though. I ran almost 64 ounces of new dot 3 brake fluid at this point

The issue with this method is that the threads on the bleeder don't seal so they can suck air back in.

You may have a brake hose that is breaking down internally. Externally it looks fine but the rubber swells on the inside and restricts flow. It will allow the high-pressure fluid through from the master cylinder but the doesn't allow the low-pressure fluid to return from the caliper.

It seems to be working fine now. I really don’t know what happened. But if there was some kind of restriction it must have flew out when I pumped the brakes with the banjo bolt out. As for the rubber lines they where all just replaced with raybestos lines off a yj.

Used hoses??

I've been down that road with old hoses a few times and it can be maddening. Just because it doesn't do it every time, doesn't mean it won't happen again until you replace the hose with a new one. I just replace the hoses with new if I have any doubt.

I think he just means he bought and installed YJ hoses. It's a cheap upgrade because the stock YJ hoses are longer than TJ hoses.
