Who knows about them? I see prices are a lot lower than when they first started becoming popular, and I see a lot of them have WIFI. I would want one with it's own WIFI, or local area network so I could check it with my phone when nearby but not in a WIFI area. I wouldn't want to have to climb up to check it every time as it will be high in a tree but I don't have a problem getting to the location and using the phone to check it.

I run around 20+ trail cameras on 2,500 acres of state forest where we hunt at, year round, but none of mine are cellular or wifi. We have physically go to the camera to check it. Do you have to mount high in the tree? We've never mounted any of our high in a tree.

Do you ever have a problem with people stealing a camera?

The reason I ask is that I'm a member of a camp that has private ground. One member put up 20+ cameras, but won't tell anybody their locations because he's afraid "they will be stolen". I've observed many of them while out and about the property, but many I don't know their location.

These cameras transmit live pictures, and it feels like I'm under security scrutiny. If I want to take a piss in the woods on my own property, I don't want to be watched.

Dad and I have been using spy point cameras. Cellular signal, 100 images per month for free. They work well, we keep a couple in our property for security, and use quite a few for their intended use on our hunting property.

I’ve only ever had 1 camera stolen and 1 memory card stolen out of another camera. I’ve had bears rip the cameras down and drags them away, but we typically find them laying within 20 yards of the tree.

A bonus for us is not many people hunt back in where most of the cameras are, we are a couple miles into the mountains.

We’ve talked about getting cell cameras but it takes away from our scouting. Pictures only give you an idea of what might be in the area. We have pictures of multiple bucks that we can track year after year as they move to different areas following the food. Every single year it changes.

This is one we’ve been tracking for 2 years now. I missed him with my flintlock after Christmas this past year sadly. Only encounter myself or my step dad have had with him. Cameras help us find his sheds this year though.

Yes, it needs to be high to discourage theft.

They only upload to the server 1x a day and 100 pics every 30 days are the two biggies. You can get paid plans that make that less limiting, up to and including notifications for new pics and video I believe.

That sounds good, how do you know which pictures to request though? Do you get a list of time stamps and you just click on the ones you want?

No, it up loads everything and when it runs out of pictures for the month it stops uploading. You view them in the app, and download the ones you want to keep. Once you’ve hit your monthly limit, It still takes pictures but you’d have to go get the chip from the camera or upgrade your plan.
