Gas Tank and Check Engine Light

I have a crack in my gas tank at the filler neck. It is causing the CEL. My friends shop took care of the misfire codes, but this remains.

I am told Mopar no longer makes our gas tanks. My question is, aftermarket or a good used one?

Man, I called my salvage yard guy. $600 and he wont sell just the plastic tank. It's the whole shabang. I just want to get it through emissions.

It's worth a try. Get your some epoxy for plastic and slather it on there.

I really think you should clean it , scuff it and try the JB Weld, work it in the crack a bit. That or some polyurethane sealant like NP-1, its a construction sealant sold at Home Depot for concrete cracks. Very flexible and sticks good. Flexibility might be an advantage.

I have been using JB Weld to repair a crack on the top of the gas tank for my 76 Dodge truck for several years now. The repair seem to hold for about 2 years then the patch starts to lift and fall off. Clean with acetone sand clean again. Sand and cover a much larger area than the crack. All of my patches have eventually failed due to the fuel vapors so I would consider this a temporary fix and try to find another tank.

I used the JB Weld method. No longer throwing codes for the evap system.
