can someoneeducate me on the anotomy of a gas tank?

over the weekend i filled up my tank. as soon asthe tank filled, gas started pouring from the top and spewing to the ground..what type of parts will i need? how extensive is the gas tank removal?
 
It happens. Just push the nozzle in a little more. There are no parts to “fix” this. At least non that I’m aware of.

Clarify some. Top of the tank or top of the filler neck where you insert the gas nozzle?
 
I haven't ever dealt with the newer fill neck stuff, but I bet you're really going to love filling up sometime with a gas can you just picked up from like Walmart or something.

My filler neck is now gutted, but for a different reason. On the other diesel swaps I've followed, the valve stuff becomes a problem quickly for them.
