Gearing help

You are in the ballpark and have a good bracket to with with. Use less compound. The buildup at the root hides the bottom side of the pattern. Everything will look deep with the build up. Just enough to turn them yellow.

If I had to guess, I'd say your sweet spot will be 17-18

Alright fellas. Turns out I'm too cautious and didn't have the pinion bearing fully pressed and thats why my shimming was so far off. So I put it in the press and got it fully seated and restarted the process.

Here is .035" pinion depth, clearly far too shallow.

And here is .0525", clearly too deep.

Thanks for all your thoughts here.

Glad you figured that out. You wouldn't have liked the result after awhile 😄.

Put the original 45 in there and see what it looks like. I bet it's really close.

I would check out 47-48. You are all but there but you can get it perfect if you out in the extra work.

47 was as close as I could get. I neglected to snap a photo. Got the arb lines ran. New axles installed. Checked to make sure the locker was actuating and got her all buttoned up. Went for about a 15 mile test drive as the Yukon manual instructs and then let it cool off. No noise in drive or during deceleration. I'd say the drive was pleasantly uneventful lol. Very happy. Thanks again for all your help.

I'll start the Dana 30 later this week. I have some house chores I need to get caught up.

Thanks again!
