05 TJ will be driving fine and out of the blue check engine light appears and Jeep goes to limp mode. I unplug the battery and reset wranglerfix pcm, and everything is good for about 50 more miles. Then back to limp mode. Turning the key 3 times results in a p0700, but no other codes appear.

@Bouska There is another code besides the 0700… You have to hook up a scanner to see what the accompanying code(s) are as the dash will not display them.
I would check the black connector going to the Pcm as well as it controls the transmission side of the vehicle.

X2, you need to attach an aftermarket scanner to get the "deeper" transmission diagnostic trouble codes. The P0700 only says something is wrong with the transmission, an external scanner will be able to read the deeper more meaningful transmission trouble codes. The scanner doesn't need to be expensive, I use a very basic/inexpensive scanner from Harbor Freight Tools which works fine to get all the hidden transmission codes..
I’ve gotten P0700 with no additional codes found with the code reader. Later I got some intermittent battery voltage codes as well. Once I got a new battery they went away. Maybe check your battery? I could imagine insufficient voltage from a failing battery could impact any number of aspects of the transmission’s ability to function correctly.
