My TJ (2001 manual) has a rattle when pulling away from a standing start. Seems to come from the transmission. Happens about 90% of the time. I’ve had it for 15 years and it’s always done it as far as I can recall, though it’s maybe getting worse. (I bought it at 60,000 and it’s currently on 74.)
Not sure if you can hear from the video but it sounds sort of gravelly, like a bag of loose nails. Goes away after a second or so and doesn’t happen again.
I almost never drive it in 4L or 4H - this is in 2H. In fact it’s reluctant to shift into 4H when I want it to - I think the shifter needs cleaning or lubricating.
Any thoughts? U-joints? Front diff?
