Gray to Tan Interior: Can Anyone Recommend a Good Paint?

I’ve had my TJ for almost 2 years now, and I’ve tried painting the interior twice. It’s the SE and had the gray interior, but I’d love to have a tan interior. I’ve used dupi-color vinyl and fabric as the paint. I’ve had the best success with the dupi-color plastic adhesion promoter, and then the dupi-color vinyl and fabric after. The problem is that it just seems to chip and scuff away very easy and doesn’t stick very well. Yes, I do prep the surface, some light abrasion with a scotch brute pad and then I wipe everything off with acetone and then let it evaporate off, then start painting.

If anyone can recommend a better paint or process to do this, please let me know, I would really like to have my interior tan and not have the paint rub and chip off. (I’ve been thinking of maybe putting a matt clear coat on top of the paint, but I’d like to hear some other peoples opinions before I try to paint it again).

Yeah I read another thread and that seemed to be the go to for it. I’m thinking that I should do the process of mild abrasion, clean with acetone (unless there’s an issue between the acetone and paint, but shouldn’t be if acetone evaporates off all the way), plastic adhesion promoter, color coat x2 or x3, I can’t decide if I should do a matt clear coat or not (I think it would add some extra rigidity, but who knows I’m not a paint expert)

I used colorbond paint to refinish my half door panels. It worked very well and I haven’t had any chips so far. It’s cheaper to buy from Amazon rather than colorbond’s website due to the only option being 2 day shipping that shows up in 3. I would recommend their paint though. It was very high quality

My opinion is that when it comes to paint in a can, there is none finer than SEM. Well, not that I've found at least.

SEM is amazing, especially when using it to paint trim pieces.

Another vote for SEM. I used an off the shelf color, Camel- and it looks great with the rest of my Spice dash.

in this photo, the center console, handle, glove box, and airbag cover have been painted with SEM adhesion promoter followed by the paint. The speaker grille piece is original. Slight variation, but no more so than other sun-faded pieces- so I really don’t mind or notice.
