Guess my new sound

02 4.0 5spd 160k. Cold start (50s, sitting level for 8+hours) 2 weeks ago I changed the oil after 6mo and 1500 miles. Wix filter and pennzoil high mileage Dino. Last Oil change was Wix filter and Mobil 1 High Mileage.

sound was at cold start, went away as you can hear. Drive it up the driveway, turned it off, turned it right back on and no sound.

A - send it, its fine
B - it’s an 18yr old jeep, stop posting
C - don’t drive with the kids.

Starter not disengaging correctly? Might check the starter gear and flywheel/flex plate teeth for unusual wear

Sounds like lifter tick. Could be a simple as a faulty anti drainback valve. I would suggest trying a different filter and then go from there. Lots of info out there about 4.0L lifter tick.

Not suggesting you use an additive at this point but this video is pretty close to the sound you posted and this is definitely lifter tick.

Lifter. My '87 XJ with 4.0 and only 267,000 miles makes that same noise, sometimes for quarter mile down the road.
I would just run it.

Be sure the filter has an anti-drainback valve on it to help get oil moving quickly around the engine.
I've never met a straight 6 that didn't like to have some occasional lifter tick. An old wrench once told me that due to the extended length of the block it takes oil a bit longer to get everything fully lubricated at start-up.

I'm using a wix 51085. PO had one, I used the fist time i changed the oil, but picked up a Fram TG and some Castrol GTX to see if that helps.
