We don’t call Christmas the “25th of December” or Thanksgiving Day the “4th Thursday of November”. Happy 4th of July – Merry 25th of December – Happy 4th Thursday of November? Would we think of celebrating the dates of Mothers Day and Fathers Day and all the other “Days”?

So lets call the “4th of July” what it really is – Independence Day.

By the way, when was the last time you read the “Unanimous Declaration of the Thirteen United States of America”? Take a few minutes between hot dogs and beer and read it out loud. Powerful words! Happy Independence Day!"

My Aunt, who is a history teacher, made the interesting remark, that all the once British colonialists (e.g. Australia, South Africa, et al), excepting America, still carry something of a British accent. We are the only ones who truly made a break in identity and truly came into our own.

Well, a Canadian might have something to say about that... BTW, one of the squadrons I was assigned to during my Navy days had a British exchange pilot (a Leftenant Commander from Cornwall) who once told me "You Yanks speak English rather badly. The Australians don't speak it at all." Apologies to any forum friends from Down Under - he said it, not me.

Your not wrong about the Aussies and the New Zealanders too...I can say that as I'm an Import from Devon,England...and funny enough that's the county(state) right next to Cornwall.. lol Happy Independence Day Jeepers may you all have many, many more. :ura:

All I said was accent. And if I listen to you talk you have a nuance of a British accent. And history just happens to report that America is the greatest nation on earth and we truly became something totally unique and an unparalleled experiment. Unfortunately, it's slowly going down the tubes bc we don't want American exceptionalism but a global village.
