Has anyone converted their TJ to a front bench seat?

My other thought is that clearing the tunnel might mean a drastic reduction in vertical space, no?

I haven't, but it has crossed my mind. I had a '70s gmc pickup with a bench seat that easily had 4" of seat-suspension travel. It really soaked up the bumps off road and was quite comfortable.

No way the TJ has the vertical room like that truck did.

I want to see a picture of three corn fed boys side by side on a bench seat in a TJ.

I think you might just replace the center console with an ammo can and top it off with a thick cushion.

Some trick race seats are suspension seats...that might accomplish what you're trying to do.

You also could dial in the Jeep's suspension for go fast.

My first thought was the rear seat but it has no adjuster, track, and it probably won’t be wide enough. Anyone ever thought of it or done it?

Not in a TJ but I did replace the bucket seats in my CJ5 with the rear seat from a JKU when my kids were smaller (family of 5). Worked great since it had the 3 point belt for all three seats.

Well, if you just have to do it, I can't imagine why, it would probably be easy to find two non-tumble seat bases and mount a bench that is wide enough to that. You' have the back-and-forth adjustment and original bolting locations (structural safety), but it'd take two hands to operate. Do that or just build a permanent mount and hope you never grow, shrink or have to have someone else drive.
