Hey guys,

I would like to ask your help on the following.

I’m negotiating a 2.5 TJ that had a 4.0 engine swap. The swap has been done by the PO so the current owner is not sure about the engine it has (only knows it has been either from a XJ or ZJ)
The engine number he sent me is 804MX20 66DCDC3.
Looking around in the web it seems it can be either a 88 or 98 engine but as the first number clashes I cannot confirm it.
Is there any other wa e.g. by the rest of the serial number or by the engine photo, to decode this ?
I’m attaching an engine picture hopping that any of you guys can give me any pointer or ways of decoding this ..

Thanks in advance

What I’ve been able to find out with some help from others until now:

- 96 or newer fuel rail
- distributor seems to be later than 1999
- horseshoe intake seems to be also from 1999

I’m trying to understand if it’s a renix or HO engine just from the photo (at least for now).
Once more any help would be deeply appreciated.
Thanks again

I don't know what number that is, but the casting numbers should be on the driver's side of the block near the engine mount.
