I'm working on a car for a close friend. She said her brakes were squealing lately so I took it for a drive and noticed a bad grinding sensation coming off the brake pedal when you apply it. It's also there lightly when you rest your foot on it with the car coasting.I tore the brakes apart and noticed nothing out of ordinary except the pads had surface cracks in them.I went ahead and applied brake pad grease to the mounting points to stop the squeal.
Both the front and rear pads and rotors were installed in April. Bearings and tie rods are tight. I just had it aligned and tires rotated today. Grinding sensation is still there. Could these cracked pads cause excessive grinding in the brake pedal?
I'm at a loss at what's going on.
