That marking compound sorta looks dry? What does the other side of the tooth look like? What is your backlash with that pattern?

To me, it looks like the Pinion is too far away. Hopefully one of the more versed gear dudes will chime in also. I would try like .005-.010 less depth shim. But that's me. And try to make the marking compound wetter or get Some new stuff.
