I just purchased a 1999 Wrangler Sport 4.0 project. It had been hit on the front and the previous owner did started doing some of the work. The issue I’ve run into is replacing the hood safety catch. I have one that mounts to the center of the hood that is about 3 inches long. Problem is there is no groove in the grill for it to go through. Notice picture below. Is it possible there were different latches and the grill goes with a different style catch? What do I need to fix issue?

Some 97’s had a different style hood catch. That grill is probably a 97 and the hood a later model
After a little more research that is what I’m thinking.
Wonder what my options are? I don’t really want to replace grill just to fix the catch issue. Wonder if I could make my own notch to make the newer catch work?

IF you decide to make your own notch.... I would suggest you find someone that has your year TJ so you know what the notch looks like and exactly where it is located...
