Horn suddenly sensitive to touch

Sorry to go against the grain on this thread but i doubt it is the clock spring. Why would that make it more sensitive? I would pull the horn cover/air bag and inspect the horn pad for missing insulators, just a thought.

So far the only one I could find was this Crown Automotive clock spring that you posted a link to for this price. I was just worried because it is so much cheaper than the others that were over two hundred. Did not know if this was a- you get what you pay for part.

I have not tried this, I will have to google the instructions on how pull the horn cover/air bag and inspect the horn pad for missing insulators Once again the airbag scares me.
The latest update was my grand kid drove it to work and parked it. Someone told her that the horn was going off in the parking lot. She went and hit the horn and it stopped honking. Then she told me it went back to being hard to honk again.

Ohiopatriot, I found this online, pretty cheap. I might try and replace this. My question is how do I remove just the center part where this goes?, or do I remove the airbag and all, or just the Jeep Wrangler TJ Front Driver Airbag Horn 1998-2002. Thanks for your reply

You have to pull the air bag for access, it's no big deal, just make sure to disconnect the battery for at least 10 minutes before working on it. There is 2 screws on the back of steering wheel, remove those, pull bag/cover out enough to unplug.

Updating, I had to replace my airbag, because there was not one in it.
Regarding the horn issue I replaced the clock spring. So far no horn issues.
I now have an issue that states my passenger squib 1 open, and my dash airbag light stays illuminated. I turned it off at the on/off switch and it still pops back on. Any one familiar with this passenger squib 1 open issue.
Also on 02 jeep wrangler TJ Sport, does the seatbelt light to the passenger seat do anything? When I sit in it there is no indication of whether I should put on the seat belt or not? There is no wiring harness that goes to it that I can locate under the seat or anywhere near the seat .Thank you for your responses. They really are appreciated.

You need an SRS airbag scan tool so you see what code the SRS system is throwing. That will tell you what the issue is. You may just need to clear the code entirely with the SRS scan tool, and that may solve it. In my experience airbag lights don’t go away unless you clear them with a SRS scan tool.

Chris, thank you for your reply. That is just it, there is no code being thrown with the display of passenger squib open 1.
It makes sense that I should try and clear it then see if it comes back on. I do have a snap on tool that told me the squib was open, i will see if I can figure out how to clear this code. Thank you
