Kicking the dust off an old thread...
Not sure if it could be considered regressing, but I seem to be preferring simpler guitars and associated gadgetry as of late. I've had and still have a few guitars with coil splitting and piezo pickups in the bridge saddles, etc., but I find I rarely use them and am strongly considering selling them off. They are fully functional and lovely, but the added features feel lost on me now, I just can't be bothered. I'd rather pick up my Fender Mexico Noventa with a single soap bar, volume and tone to noodle on than the Pro II Tele Deluxe (almost never sees action) or the EBMM, both with their push/push or push/pull pots and clever wiring.
So in that vein, I've been eyeballing some form of Fender La Cabronita Tele for quite awhile now. These tend to diverge from the Tele standard a bit (hence the name), but keep it simple like the old Teles were. Anyway, I managed to score a 2019 LE Cabronita in butterscotch blonde earlier this week and it arrived this evening. I've played it, but not through an amp yet. With nothing but two TV Jones humbucking pickups, a 3 way pickup switch and a volume knob, I already have feeling we're going to be fast friends. If it sounds as good as I think it looks and feels...
This cell phone picture does not do it justice. It's a really lovely guitar that could only be made better if the neck was roasted with stainless frets. The LE's were available in 3 colors only, I'd have gone for any of them but found the blonde.
