How much abuse can the factory hitch take?

My Jeep has the factory hitch, and I’ve smacked it hard a few times when dropping down a ledge. So how much abuse can the hitch actually take? Is there any worry of it tweaking the frame?

Mine did the same thing, it caused too much of a loss of ground clearance and it kept dragging on the terrain and getting hit when dropping off a ledge. I replaced it and the bumper with a bumper that has an integrated bumper hitch from https://www.thedirtworx.com/product-page/rear-bumper. I have installed that bumper onto both of my TJs, it's solid, well made, and made in the USA!

So how are you mounting your spare (35" iirc) tire?

I use an OR-Fab spare tire carrier, unfortunately OR-Fab is no longer in business. It was bolted through the tub to hidden brackets that bolted to the rear rollbar mounting bases that bore the weight of the spare tire. It was incredibly strong and an outstanding design, RIP OR-Fab. :(
